Hey Sports Fans, Michael Schottey here with my third mock of the 2009 season. Enjoy!
Version 1.0 was the first mock of the season on Drafttek which was replaced by the primary simulation. Fellow senior writer Rick McGlothlin and I will continue to tweak these mocks until January when we will be featured monthly on the main page. As always, feedback is fully encouraged and appreciated. I can be reached at MSchottey@drafttek.com
Version 2.0/2.5 included an update to ‘logic’ which launches away from common practice of explaining picks and rather giving readers a profile of both the team and player involved.
Version 3.0 is a dissected version to get the picks out first. Most of the analysis is already written but has to be updated with new draft order. This order is the “official order” from WalterFootball.com. Expect full team and player profiles sometime over the Thanksgiving Break–something to be thankful for! Questions or comments? Email can be sent to MSchottey@drafttek.com…comments are always appreciated!

Allow me to divert some of my normal attention from the NFL and direct it towards the continuing disgrace that exists in collegiate football. We see It happen every year, and it certainly is happening again this year. The talk of how badly the BCS (Bowl Championship Scam) is flawed and how a playoff of nearly any type would be light-years better for the game, not to mention more fair and much more enjoyable.
And I do not advocate the removal of bowl games/corporate tie-ins in order to do this, but that is another discussion for another tie. In fact, the glaring example that reignites my ire this season doesn’t particularly start at the top. It does, however, involve a current undefeated team and the impending injustice it may endure after clinching a season of eleven wins and zero losses.

The Titans lose their first game of the season and the playoff races in each conference get a little more interesting coming out of week twelve. How does the Tennessee loss impact this week’s rankings? Well, take a look at my tentative rankings prior to the Monday Night battle between Green Bay and New Orleans.

Five pretty compelling matchups this weekend that will go a long way in determining division standings and playoff positioning as we head into the final few weeks of the ‘08 season. Each of the games I have selected for this edition of MMM are certainly going to be physical, close and exciting. The only possible blowout I see in the bunch is if Peyton Manning torches the rather leaky SD secondary and the Indy defense stifles Rivers. Otherwise, all should be pretty competitive games. Also, note the rather redundant pattern in this week’s “Keys to the Game”.

Up until the release of Mock Draft #8 late last night, we’re been using the same version of our draft creation software that was used last season for the 2008 NFL draft. This software does not have a formal name, but I will refer to it as “SimuDraft” for the purpose of this blog entry. SimuDraft v2009 will have its debut next week on November 25th – it will be used in generating Consensus Mock Draft #9.
For the past few months we’ve been working on the 2009 version of SimuDraft. This revision requires each team to be assigned either a “3-4″ or a “4-3″ defense. You can find the currently assigned defenses here: http://www.drafttek.com/teamother2009.html

Well it was another exciting slate of games in the NFL and week eleven gave us a couple of firsts. The Bengals and Eagles played to a tie, which is the first in an NFL game since it last happened on nearly the same day back in 2002. Also, in the storied history of the NFL, today was the first time a game ever ended with a final score of 11-10, as Pittsburgh edges San Diego.
As the season gets close to the games where final playoff placement begins, there were some key games that kept a few clubs in contention for the playoffs, and others close to the top pick in the 2009 draft in New York City next April. Here then are my tentative power rankings prior to Monday Night’s matchup (that really won’t affect the top 10 at all) for week eleven in the NFL.

Well gang, there are some great games on tap in Week Eleven of the NFL and I have six that I think will provide some great drama throughout the day, beginning with the resurgent Ravens offense going up against the mighty Giant defense. And of course the traditional throwdown between the Cowboys and the Skins should be a slugfest as well. So getcha popcorn ready, er, that’s a tired line these days.
Just enjoy the day of football at hand and check out the Marquee Matchups below:

Drafttek’s Midseason College Football Awards

Mac’s latest NFL Awards article got me thinking. Now, normally I would just blatantly steal his idea and write a new award article (only mine would be right whereas his was ridiculously wrong). Instead, I’ll go my own road. With a few months to go in the college football season, here are my picks for the hardware.
